The lake level is 556.64 and still rising but more slowly after two days of sunshine. We are to get more rain tomorrow night. The backs of the creeks are muddy with runoff and then it turns stained as you go out towards main lake. Surface temperature is in the mid 60's. The level at Newport is 14 feet so they could let out more if they wanted to. Better to generate electricity than open the gates and waste it. It was a good thing they drew the level down this winter. There is still a top water bite most mornings for bass and white bass and the catfish are hitting on jugs and trot lines. I got a channel cat in the 10-lb. range yesterday. The water is in the buck brush and needs to settle out a bit for the good fishing to return. Some of the spawn washed out with the consistently rising water. After a while they just give up on a nest and go out to sea. Watch around the islands and Robinson campground for walleye. They will be there soon.
