Annual Festivals

Throughout the year, weekends in the Twin Lakes area come alive with a variety of festivals, most notably during the fall and summer. The most well-known include Hootin’ & Hollerin’, the Mountain View Bean Fest, the Yellville Turkey Trot, the Mountain Home Crafts Fair, and Norfork Pioneer Days. The Ozark Folk Center hosts events almost every weekend, so be sure to ask us what's going on during your stay! Here are a few examples of local events:

Fireworks - Rent a Boat & Go!

The fireworks display over Norfork Lake is a special experience, with thousands of boats lighting up the lake's surface. Around 40,000 people gather on land and water for this annual event, with about 3,000 to 4,000 boats spreading out between the Norfork bridges. The fun begins before dark as boats gather for prime viewing spots, and spectators swim and party. If you've never seen fireworks over water, rent one of our boats for the best experience. Arrive before dark to enjoy the pre-show festivities!

Pioneer Days

The Ozarks were heavily impacted during the Civil War, with Missouri, just 16 miles away, playing a critical role. Several reenactment groups perform throughout the year, offering visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time. Actors portraying various pioneer characters, dressed in period costumes and speaking authentically, provide an immersive history lesson of the area's past.

Festivals

From husband calling contests to outhouse races and pet shows, there’s no shortage of quirky and fun festivals in the Ozarks. Starting in early September, festivals take place throughout the region every weekend. Many feature local crafts, music, and demonstrations that showcase the Ozark culture, along with plenty of food, games, and booths.

Dry Run Creek Fishing Derby

The Children's Fishing Tournament held every June at Quarry Park near Norfork Dam is a popular event for young anglers. Kids ranging from toddlers to 16-year-olds compete for prizes, with local businesses donating gifts and money. The champion of the day not only catches the most fish but may also reel in the biggest trout. This fun yet competitive event draws children from across the central U.S. for a memorable day of fishing.
