About Us

Blackburn's Resort has a rich history that dates back to 1942 when Fred and Charlene Blackburn purchased the land. At the time, Norfork Lake was brand new, with the dam nearing completion, making Blackburn’s the very first resort on the lake.

Due to World War II shortages, building materials were scarce, so the Blackburns crafted much of the resort by hand. They made their own bricks and cement blocks, with a horse on a treadmill powering saws and mixers. By 1946, Blackburn's Ranch and Resort opened its doors to guests.

In 1949, the Blackburns sold the resort, but the new owner retained the name and ran the property for 29 years. Another owner continued the legacy for 17 more years, with many loyal guests returning annually since the late 1940s and 1950s—some still visiting today!

In early 1996, Steve Street became the new owner and, like his predecessors, preserved the Blackburn name. Steve’s background is impressive: after serving in the military from 1969 to 1972, he earned a BA in economics, business administration, and electronic technology, followed by a master’s degree in chemical engineering. He worked in engineering and leadership roles at National Starch and Chemical, Carnation Company, Michael Foods, Interstate, and Schroeder Group.

Steve is deeply involved in his community as a member of the American Legion, VFW, Elks, and as a Master Mason. An Eagle Scout in his youth, Steve now enjoys scuba diving (with multiple certifications), fishing, hunting, and outdoor activities. His expertise in pest control, supported by his Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license, means guests can enjoy a mosquito-free experience at the resort. We are family owned and family operated and are not sold or for sale. We like it here.

Please note that due to Corps of Engineers regulations, you must rent a cabin at Blackburn's to rent a boat. Additionally, boat stalls are not available for one-night stays.
