Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

Second try. Better luck this time. Image title

The lake level is 553.67 and has risen 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with no generation. They just started at 8AM but there is no effort to drop the lake. The White River at Newport is 19.97 feet and dropping. The surface water temperature is 46-degrees and rising with the warm ambient temperatures and the water is stained a brownish green and Sciuba Steve could only see his lure down about 3-feet in the sunshine. The snow is gone and the melting slowed the water warming. The lake is at a good level and color for fishing but fishing is just fair. A few White Bass are showing up west of the 101 bridge on the south facing bank. The Crappie come to the brush in 20-25 ft. of water to feed in the evening just before dark and then they quit again and have lock jaw most of the day. Some are very large. The creeks will warm faster than the main lake now that the snow is gone and the bass are moving right on the bank. This is just happening. Not much happening in the bright sunshine but some very large crappie are being caught late. I have not caught a walleye or Striper in a week. Walleye and Stripers will spawn in March with White Bass a little later when the water reaches about 55-degrees. When you see a bunch of trucks parked around the Tecumseh Bridge the Walleye are heading North.  They go further now that the Dawt Mill dam is gone. The Walleye population has grown in the past few years but I would like to see more of them stocked by Arkansas and not just depending on Missouti. Arkansas has temporarily fixed the Walleye rearing pond but there are no Walleye in it. The Walleye Club should rise to the occassion and help out. If Spring is not here it is missing a good chance.
