The lake level is 553.73 and has risen 3/4 of an inch in the last 24-hours with minimal generation. We received 1/2 inch of rain on Monday and another 0.4 inches this morning and it is still raining. The creeks are running slowly. The surface water temperature is just under 46-degrees and the water is clearing and Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 4-feet. The White River at Newport is rising slowly and is at 17.47 feet. The lake overall is in good condition and at a good level for fishing. Fishing is just fair. I am alternating between Crappie fishing and Bass fishing and catching a few everyday but have to work for them. It has been cold, cloudy, rainy and dreary but we have avoided the snow and ice with severe weather south of us and snow and ice to the north. I do not like to wish my life away but at least we are almost 1/2 way through February. Finding broken schools of Shad in open water and dropping a spoon through them and casting a grub and minnow past brush and letting it sink into it are my go to baits under tough conditions. Also a medium sized minnow on a slip float right in the brush will catch about anything. 25-ft. brush is a good place to start on main lake points. Most of the Bass that I am catching are Kentuckies with few Largemouth and no Smallmouth. I am not sure it was a good idea to take the size limit off of the kentuckies. They bite when everything else gets tough. If you are tired of drilling holes come on down to Norfork Lake. It should warm up again by next week. Compare prices and call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for information and a reservation. We will not charge you too much. Scuba Steve will show you where his new brush piles are located. You can drive to the dock, launch right here and park your trailer and be finished with that until you leave. A free stall for your boat at our big dock comes with a cabin rental of two days or more. Some charge for them we do not.
