Scuba Steve with some nice ones last evening. He will help you.
The lake level is 554.81 and has dropped 3-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and spillway gates open to an equivalent of another 1-1/3rd generator. The White River at Newport is 18.02 feet and high with the increased water releases. The surface water temperature is 55-degrees and dropping again with the cold nights. It is to get very cold tonight with rain again next week. The creeks are stained brown with the earlier rain but the main lake remains fairly clear but is not clearing with the generation and river current. Overall Norfork is in good condition and at a good level but is too high for the time of year. It needs to be about 548 to make room for the spring rains. They do not like to drop it much past 553.75 for some unknown reason. Scuba Steve has been catching fish every afternoon and evening on his brush piles starting about 3:PM and getting better until about 1/2 hour after dark. The Stripers start biting about 5:PM. Spoons and live bait are the best. Crappie like 2-inch white twister tail tipped with a small live minnow cast past the brush and letting it sink into it and also a live minnow on a slip float. The fish are about 18-20 ft. deep and you can catch about anything on the 1/4 ounce Bink's Jigging spoon. I do not spoon much in the dark but some people do. Bass are on drop-offs where the brown water meets the clear water part way back in the creeks and are biting 3-inch Stingray Grubs on a jig head and crank baits.Overall fishing is pretty good.
