The lake level is 563.06 and has dropped 6-inches in the last 24-hours with both generators running continuously and spillway gates open to an equilavent of another 1/3rd of a generator. It is not a good time for river fishing on the Norfork River and they closed the launch ramp below the dam. The surface water temperature is 60-degrees and the water is slow clearing with the high discharge and river current and is stained light brown. The debris is now sruck to the bank with the level drop and is not likely to move anytime soon. The White River at Newport is 13.40 ft. and rising. On December 1st. they can let out much more water if they want to. The fish are getting more active in the evening back in the windblown creeks. The wind has been incessant and has finally slowed a bit. We are approacing the season where the cold fronts come through about twice a week slowing fishing and then it gets better until the next one. The fish do not like a quickly dropping lake levels but some good ones can be caught if you pick your times. I usually catch several big fish this time of year but the recent flood did not help anything and I am not a big fan of the wind. Not because you cannot catch fish in it but it is just not fun for me. A little Walleye chop is just fine. Try a small spinner bait or grub back in the creeks around the old bank before the lake rise in the cover and go out in the middle of the same place in 20-ft. of water and drop a spoon for Bass. It has been too windy open water fishing for me and I am not a troller. I like to feel the thump and set the hook. If you are in the Mountain Home area for the holidays stop by and check us out.
