Ken and Tom from Fulton, Missouri with some of yesterday's catch fishing with Bink's Guide Service on his jigging spoon.
The lake level is 567.96 and has dropped 3-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and the second one running every once in a while. They also have spillway gates open just a bit equal to 1/6th of a generator and are managing the White River at Newport to 16-feet. Minor flood stage is 25-feet. The surface water temperature is 66-degrees and the water is stained light brown in the Blackburns Creek area with the increased generation. The level needs to drop about 20-feet before the spring rains but fat chance of them doing that. It would be nice to at least get below 560 which is the level where parking and launching starts to go away. It was windy yesterday afternoon when I came in and the fishing was not the best. I could catch one active fish and maybe two and then they would quit and I had to move. Bink is catching Bass, Hybrids, and a few small stripers in 20-30 ft. of water on his spoon. I was using a small grub. All of my brush piles are too deep. I did catch a couple of Crappie in the 10-inch range but no big ones. I released all of my fish on sight. I am still concerned about the large Crappie numbers. They just do not seem to be there but the high dirty water is not helping anything. A few good fish are being caught but you have to work for them. The water is tea colored now and looks about like a Northwestern Ontario lake about everywhere and the discharge from the dam is muddy. I do not know why. Go way back in the creeks and spoon the bottom in 20ft. of water tapping bottom for some Kentucky Bass. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental continues to have the best place with the best prices and especially welcome Veterans and Police. We are Family owned and Family operated and are not sold or for sale. We like it here. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. It is nice here and the price is right.
