Keith Katashuk with a nice one caught during his stay here. Nice fellow and a good fisherman. His father is not bad either. They are always welcome. Yes we cull here.
The lake level is 551.73 and is down 1-inch in the last 24-hours with one generator running from 3-10 PM. The White River at Newport is 3.24 feet and very low. Norfork is about 2-ft. below the top of the power pool which is about normal but Bull Shoals is 8-feet below and getting low. It thundered yesterday morning and rained enough to wet the bottom of the rain gauge. It is dry here with a burn ban finally on. It took long enough. I was afraid one of the hundreds of new RV parks and campgrounds around Mountain Home would burn us out with their fire pits. It is no time to promote campfires. The summer tornadoes left a lot of dead brush and fuel for a fire. The area is not equipped to fight a big one. Make your smores on a bbq grill. What we need around Mountain Home is more RV parks, self storages, get those property taxes and insurance rates up where they need to be and ship in a few hundred illegal immigrants and then we can be like it is everywhere else. I used to like Lake Taneycomo and Table Rock Lake but all you have to do is look over there and see into the future of Mountain Home except they have condos and we have RV parks. RV parks are great. You get to have a new neighbor almost everyday and they are all nice law abiding people that live in a camper saving money, paying no property taxes for schools, police, fire protection and you can sleep with one eye open.I do not have much control on what happens in Mountain Home but a lot of control on what happens at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. The surface water temperature is about 70-degrees and the water is clearing a bit both in the creeks and on the main lake. There are a lot of baitfish shallow but the fish are not feeding very well and the few fish that I am cleaning are void of any food. It is best to go for reaction strikes. Several fish of different species are on or around brush in 20-25 feet of water. Drop a small spoon of a live minnow on their heads. I have been scuba diving in the mornings and pole fishing in the evenings a getting a few fish but not a lot. Your best bet is for Crappie and Bluegill with a few Kentucky Bass thrown in. Some Stripers are showing up on the points with the Walleye but are small and not feeding very well. The weather has been great but fishing is only fair. You have to move around a lot, not to find fish but to find feeding fish. The fish are there because I go down and see them. My live scope is my eyes. They are spooky and moving. Not my eyes but the fish. Come on down and enjoy the fall foliage and beautiful weather at Blackburns where there are no mosquitoes and black flies. It is nice here and the price is right. Call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. You will like it here. We are family owned and family operated and are not for sale or have not been sold. I have no desire to cash out. We like it here. Bass Master Division 2 tournament on Norfork Lake is April 3-5. Scuba Steve is not much for fishing tournaments but this is at a good time.
