The lake level is 552.13 and is stable with very little generation. The White River at Newport is 1.49 feet and about ready to dry up with very little water being released anywhere. You cannot launch a boat there. We are very dry with no rain all this month. It is not doing the fall foliage for the leaf peepers any good and there is very little color except some yellow and a lot of brown and is not worth a trip here to view just that. Even the roadside Sumac is not brilliant like it usually is.  The lake is in excellent condition and at a good level with beautiful weather. It is good to just be out there and cruise the lake and let the sun shine down on you and view the scenery. Most of the trees are cedars on the shoreline and are still very green. We live in a beautiful area. Things are changing here but there is not much chance of me moving anywhere else anytime soon as long as I have my small 28-acres of sanctuary. It cannot be too bad if people pay to come to visit. Peace and quiet is very valuable. The moon is getting smaller and fishing is picking up a bit but the high pressure, clear high skies and dropping lake level still are having a negative influence on fishing but it is never the best in October anyway but we are heading in the right direction. Crappie, Bass and Bluegill are the best bite now with a few Walleye mixed in. Try small spoons, live minnows and a small spinner bait especially in the evenings. Also try casting a small grub tipped with a small minnow past the brush and let it sink into it. Over 1/2 of the Crappie are throw backs but fun to catch and you are not taking them off the spawning banks this time of year. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental is still the home of the $69/day one bedroom cabins and $89/day two bedrooms. All cabins are individual with no duplexes and all have big covered porches to get out of the weather. A free stall for your boat comes with a cabin rental of two days or more at our big dock in a sheltered cove with two fish cleaning stations and security systerm. Come on down. We especially welcome Veterans and Police and will not charge you too much. Call Debbie at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We are pet friendly and family owned and operated. Blackburns customers catch more fish.
