Fisherman Mike with a good one diving Scuba Steve's Brush Piles yesterday.
The lake level is 553.72 and is now lower than the top of the power pool for the first time in a long time. They run 1-1/4 generators for about 5-hours yesterday but quit at 10:PM last night. They just started again at noon today. It dropped 3/4 of an inch in the last 24-hours. The White River at Newport is 5.75 feet and very low. Bull Shoals is 7-feet below the top of their power pool but they just will not drop Norfork. It is like thay want it to flood with one big rain. The surface water temperature is about 75-degrees in the warm sunny afternoons. The weather has been beautiful and should remain so for several more days. The creeks are still stained a little green but the main lake has good visibility down past about 22-feet and fair down to there. The best bite right now is Crappie on the top of brush with a small spoon or a minnow on a slip float. Some Walleye and Bass are in the same brush but sometimes in front of it at various depths. I am seeing a few White Bass but do not fish for them much. The Crappie are not the Big ones and there are several throwbacks but at least they are biting better. Trollers are having a hard time but trolling and brush pile fishing does not go together very well. Channel Cats are biting fair on jugs with live bait part way in the back of windblown creeks. The small moon is helping but it gets full on the 17th and that will slow them down especially on clear nights. The lake overall is in good condition and at a good level. There were several boaters out yesterday. The fall foliage is starting to change but more on the roadsides than the lake shore. The Sumac is getting a little red but mostly brown so far. The Sycamores are turning yellow on the lake shore. We are not near peak and I have no idea what that will look like. The last couple of years have not been so good but Norfork Lake is always beautiful on a sunny fall day.
