Scuba Steve with his best one yesterday on Blackburns Brush Piles.
The lake level is 555.15 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with 1-1/4 generators running about 5-hours. The top of the power pool goes to 553.75 on October 1st and if they keep with their lastest pattern the level shoud drop to that level by then. After it goes below the top of the power pool most of the generation is controlled by Southwestern Power and they are very reluctant to let out much water. The surface water temperature is 79-degrees in the mornings and dropping with the cooler nights. The cooler the nighs get with clear skies, high pressure and light winds the worse the fog is in the mornings. It is too early for a fall foliage report but my Maple Tree and Burning Bush are changing color already and the Walnut trees are dropping leaves along with the thermocline being gone in this area point to fall and it is too early. Peak Fall Foliage in this area is usually the very last of October. There is a top-water bite some mornings but is mostly small Bass. White Bass are moving around main lake points with the Crappie and Walleye. Some Bass are shallower in front of the brush piles and some fish are on shad part way back in the creeks in 25-30 ft. of water. Fishing is slow but should improve soon. Some good ones are being caught everyday but not a lot. The creeks have cleared up and most of the floating algae is gone but creek clarity can change almost daily. There are a lot of bait fish out there and the fish population is good and they are fat and healthy. It looks to be a good fall for fishing. The lake is in good condition and at a good level. We should not get much rain tomorrow with the hurricane but we need an inch or two but the weather for the weekend looks great. Things are changing quickly and I will keep you informed. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We will not charge you too much. We are pet friendly and especially welcome Veterans and Police. Old Glory and the Thin Blue Line Flag fly proudly over Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
