John Bornhop knows where Scuba Steve's brush piles are located because he helped put them in. We have some good ones. Good sammich there.
The lake level is 555.27 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with 1-1/2 generators running for about 5-hours. The White River at Newport is 4.61 feet and very low indicating not much water is being released.anywhere. The surface water temperature is 82-degrees and the thermocline is at 31-feet. The visibility has diminished a bit but is still ok for Scuba Diving but not as good as it was. Overall fishing is not the best but some nice ones are being caught everyday if you know what you are doing. Get out early, take the middle of the day off and go out again about 5-PM until dark. Find a good main lake brush pile in 25-30 feet of water on a point that the wind has been blowing into. Norfork is a flooded river channel so the wind direction varies as the channel swings and swirls at times. Take time to look where the wind is coming from and watch the water as it moves past channel swings and you can tell where the fish will be but that does not mean they will bite. There is a lot of bait out there. The fish get lethargic if the oxygen level is low but they like just above, at or just below the thermocline. Crappie, Bluegill and some Kentucky Bass are on top of the brush and roaming with the bait fish and they follow the planktom which is at the mercy of the wind. A minnow set about 15-ft. deep on top of brush on a slip float or a small spoon is worning the best. Drop the spoon and touch bottom and snap it up about 5-6 feet and let it fall on slack, light, clear line. Some Stripers and Hybrids have moved to the thermocline and are also biting a spoon but only when it is dropped on their heads. You will be fortunate to catch one or two. Right now it looks to be an early fall and a gradual lake turnover. Your self-deploying trolling motors with spot lock and the live scopes are not doing much good at this time and you have to get back to basics. Look for the bait and the game fish will be nearby but that does not mean they will bite. Some will and you have to be patient and not get in a hurry. Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental is currently on their off-season rates and you can get a 1-bedroom cabin for $69/day and it comes with a free stall for your boat at our big dock in a sheltered cove.. No three-tiered pricing here. All cabins are individual with no duplexes and all have either screened-in or big covered porches to get out of the weather. We have no mosquitoes here at Blackburns but there are some in other locations on the lake. Compare prices and give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. No we are not for sale, have not sold out or are not leaving town. We like it here and want you to do also. Scuba Steve will show you where his brush piles are located when you get here. He is out there everyday.
