Mike Eakle with some nice ones close to Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental on Scuba Steve's brush piles. The big fall Crappie are moving in. We like that.
The lake level is 556.99 and is down 1-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with 1-3/4 generators running for 12-hours. Less generation is scheduled for today and more tomorrow. They are very reluctant to drop the l;ake very much lower than the top of the power pool which is 555.75 now and drops to 553.75 in October. The White River at Newport is 8.54 feet and low indicating no much water is being let out anywhere. The surface water temperature is 84-degrees in the river channel when they are generating and warmer back in the creeks. The thermocline was 30-feet where I was diving yesterday and the water clarity had diminished a bit but was still good for spearfishing. It got very cloudy below the thermocline which is opposite what it usually is and that is because the thermocline came up a few feet in the last 3-4 days. The water is more clear on the windblown rocky banks and that is where the fish are located if there is brush or chunk rocks there. The further south you go the better the clarity but not necessarily the fish. If you can see well there will probably not be very many fish there. There are a lot of nice kentucky bass on main lake brush in 30-ft. of water at various depths and some Crappie too. The Crappie are spooky and are roaming from brush pile to brush pile loking for minnows. Bass and some White Bass are back in the creeks in the evening on the creek minnows and shad. from 20-30 feet of water and there are a lot of them. Bait fish are everywhere and if you put a light out after dark the Gar will overwhelm you. The Striper fishermen are right out in front of the dam but not as many as there were because they are not catching as many as they were. Go on out an join them. I will be either pole fishing or scuba diving for Walleye and Crappie in 30-36 feet of water on main lake point drop-offs with a 1/2 ounce Bink's Spoon with a red eye. You can keep those put and take red meat fish.
