Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental

The lake level is 555.74 and has risen 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with no generation since 8:PM last evening. We have received 1.2 inches of badly need rain the last two days. We seem to get a rain everytime we need one. It is nice to have things green in August. It is to be hot the next couple of days.  The surface water temperature is 82-degrees and the thermocline is at 31-feet and very pronounced with about a 3-4 foot mudline just above that with clear water to the mud line. Diving conditions are good. The White River at Newport is 4.35 feet and about ready to dry up with the lack of water release from the dams. Why they are holding the lakes up so high is anybody's guess bacause there is no accountability. The current management has been in power too long and needs to be replaced. The Stripers are still in front of Quarry marina in 60+ feet of water. Just look for the boats and join them.  I will pass. The best bite right now is Kentucky Bass in 25-30 ft. brush piles on the 3/8th ounce jigging spoon. There are some nice ones too.  Some smaller Walleye and a few Crappie are with them. The larger Bass are deeper during the day but some are coming up about 9:AM especially on cloudy days and again in the evening about 7:PM. There is more top-water action every day. The White Bass will move part way back in the creeks soon and some fish are doing it already.  There is a lot of bait out there and they are drawing too many gar which are everywhere. Several nice Walleye are in 38-ft. of water near the bottom on main lake points at the drop-off in chunk rocks or brush. Drop a spoon on their heads. Blackburns still has one cabin open for Labor Day weekend so give Debbie a call before you have to pay much more elsewhere. Cabins start at $90/day and pontoon boats at $115/day. Compare prices and call 870-492-5115 and we will not charge you too much. Blackburns is the best place with the best price and is closest to Mountain Home, dining and shopping. The children will love the big pool with slide and bably pool and the big flat playground. Bring their bikes.
