Scuba Steve with a nice one yesterday diving Blackburns brush piles.
The lake level is 555.94 and has dropped 2-3/4 inches in the last 24-hours with 1-3/4 generators running a little more than 1/2 the time. The White River is 5.90 feet at Newport and about ready to dry up. Does anybody know why they are holding the area lakes up so high and for so long? They should at least let us know. With all of the new regulations and constant inspections the employees at local Corps of Engineers office are not exactly the most revered members of our community. They are referred to as the office of no. It is a good thing for them they are not elected. The water remains clear and the surface water temperature was 85-degrees this morning with the thermocline the same for several weeks starting at 30-feet and very cold at 35-feet. Several fish of different species are at and around this depth especially on main lake brush. Walleye are just a bit deeper and the Stripers are in front of Quarry marina in 60+ feet of water. My favorite place right now is at the end of main lake points just where they drop off in chunk rocks or brush. Use the 1/2 ounce Bink's Spoon in the deeper water and the 3/8th ounce is the shallower. Snap it up 5-6 feet and let it fall on slack lne. They will hit it on the fall. This is especially good with light wind. It looks like most of the forcasted rain will go south of us with the best chance being tomorrow morning but nothing serious. We are very dry and could use an inch or two of slow rain with no wind. Catfish are biting the spoon for some reason more now and are with the Walleye. Also there is a top-water bite for mostly Bass about 9:AM in the morning after the Walleye and Striper bite is over. Be ready with a Zara Spook or Spitin Image. If you are going to fish Norfork much you had better learn how to walk the dog and drive a jigging spoon if you want to be successful and not just drag stuff around. I am going pole fishing early and Scuba Diving later. Kentucky Bass is the best bite.
