Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

Carl Scott is back and catching fish. He always does and is an excellent fisherman and welcome here at Blackburns. Image titleImage title

The lake level is 561.22 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with only 5-hours of generation. They are letting five times as much water out of Bull Shoals than Norfork and we are much higher. The surface water temperature is 84-degrees and the thernocline is at 29-feet with about 5-ft. of visibility at that depth. The lake has crested since the last rain but they refuse to drop the level much and are keeping it very high. The White River at Newport is 16.19 feet and dropping quickly and it looks like they are heading to that magical 12-ft. level again. I do not remember the grass being so green and the weather being so cool in the last part of July. I always say it will be 100 degrees that last of July and first of August but we will see. It is sure nice now but there is a good chance of rain Monday and Tuesday with thunderstorms on Wednesday. Ovarall the lake is in excellent condition but too high. About 10-feet too high. Not much has changed as far as fishing is concerned. The stripers and larger walleye are heading south and deeper but not as deep as usual. look in about 55-ft. of water on shad on flats. Bass are on brush on main lake points during the day and moving in shallow to feet on crawdads in the evening. Some Crappie are on brush and some are on the main lake on shad and roaming. They usually move in to the brush in late August when this year's fry gets big enough to eat and are on all cover. I am not seeing any White Bass but are not looking for them.
