The lake level is 559.96 and has risen 1-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with no generation since yesterday afternoon and none scheduled for today. We did receive 0.3 inches of badly needed rain last night. Hold that water up as long as you can boys and keep as much flooded out as you can with this hot dry weather. The White River at Newport is 11.76 feet and the surface water temperature is 88-degrees and came up a couple yesterday with the very hot weather. It is cooler today and tomorrow and then back up after that with some rain chances. The storms and wind can come up fast this time of year. Between the bridges is the windiest part of the lake. The thermocline is at 26-feet and the clarity is about 5-6 feet at that depth. The stripers are going deeper but have not dropped down into the oxygen bubble yet so there must still be some oxygen at the 40-50-ft. level. Some larger walleye are with the Hybrids in deep water 40-55 feet down and the spoon is the best lure. This usually happens but not this early. Most larger walleye have moved off main lake brush leaving the smaller ones. Catfishing was good last night with the smaller moon and the slowly rising water on live bait. Use 3-4 inch Bluegill if you can get them and shiners if you cannot. I am not much on Goldfish. Cut bait and hotdogs are mostly catching a few small channel cats. Flatheads will not bite dead bait and they are my favorite. Scuba Diving conditions are good but spearfishing for Crappie and Walleye has gone downhill with the water temperature. The Crappie and White Bass will school and move shallower but have not done so yet. Flathead season does not open until July 15th due to their late spawn. The lake overall is in excellent condition for Diving, Boating, Swimming and Fishing and Striperd Bass and Black Bass are the best bite. It is time for the flourescent line, saltcrawss and black light for the larger bass late.
