Norfork Lake Family Fun at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental and at the best price.
The lake level is 560.51 and is down 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with only 5-hours of generation despite the dry, hot weather. There is no reason to be so high this year with the below normal rainfall. The White River at Newport is 11.99 feet indicating not much water is being released. It could be much more. The only thing saving us is the lack of rainfall not how the lakes are being managed. The surface water temperature is 85-degrees and rising. The thermocline starts at 24-feet with cold water at 26-feet. Several fish are on main lake brush at 30-feet. Stripers have moved south and are south of the Robinson Campground just past where you turn to Fall and Panther creeks. Look for all of the boats. They are coveyed up like a bunch of Vultures killing small stripers like crazy and most of them are locals and guides. They need to lower the limit as they do not reproduce and are put and take like the river trout. The fishing pressure is getting more and the stockings have been about the same for several years. The same people are showing off and bragging about killing stripers day after day. I wonder what they do with all of those fish? They are fun to catch but after you cut out the red meat there is not much left. They all die after being caught out of deep water in hot weather. The Walleye population is increasing and fishing for them is getting more and more popular. They reproduce in the lake and rivers some but are also stocked. Missouri stocks more than Arkansas and I would like to see Arkansas stock more. They took the Size limit off Kentucky Bass this year and more and more of them are being killed and smaller ones. The idea was to lower the competition for food with the Largemouth so they could grow more quickly as the tournament fishermen complained that there were too many small Bass in Norfork. It seems to me that there are plenty of shad for everybody and all species seem to be fat and healthy. I enjoy catching Kentucky Bass and they are excellent eating. The Game and Fish know what they are doing and I am sure they have the best interest of the lake and fishermen's success in mind when making rules and stocking plans.
