The lake level is 557.71 and is up just a bit in the last 24-hours with one generator running from 9:AM to 5:PM. We are one foot above the power pool and they refuse to drop the level. The White River at Newport is 12.97 feet and dropping. The surface water temperature is 78-degrees and is good for swimming. The water is clear on the main lake and a little green in the creeks but overall in good condition and at a good level. It does not need to rise much more. We are getting a thunder storm right now and it is very dark in the mid morning. The full moon is tomorrow and it will spur the shad spawn and help the top-water bite which has been disappointing this year. The Bluegill are spawning as are the flathead catfish and about everything else is finished except for the Kentucky Bass which have a long drawn out spawn most of the summer. There remains a decent White Bass bit in open water on shad. Stripers are just south of Cranfield Marina against the steep bank and are shallow early and move out into deeper water after sunrise. Some nice ones are being caught but not many and most are in the 5-7 pound range. Crappie are near cove but only a few are schooled and mostly the smaller ones. I am catching some large ones on main lake brush in 23-35 ft. of water on the jig or small spoon. People are catching some very large largemouth on jugs while fishing for catfish. I do not like holiday weekends and am glad when they are over. This looks to be a rainy one but should be ok. Just do not venture too far from the shed while boating and keep away from between the bridges which is the windiest part of the lake. Blackburns big pool with baby pool and slide is open and we are ready for your visit. 870-492-5115 Compare prices and give Debbie a call. You will need covered porches this weekend especially if you smoke. We have lots of deer, birds and other wildlife to watch and all at the best price.
