The lake level is 556.05 and has risen 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with no generation since 5:PM lasst evening and spillway gates open to an equivalent of 1/3rd of a generator. The level is up a total of 2.43 feet since last week's big rain in Missouri and is close to cresting. It has been cloudy and rainy for several days with minimal rain and is to continue through the weekend. Not good for solar panels. The White River at Newport is 14.56 feet and leveling off after a quick rise. It has been low all winter and the spring. They are now regulating to 14-feet. The lake is very clear on the main lake with a little debris in the creeks caused by floating out small stuff with the water rise. The surface water temperature is almost 69-degrees and rising. The top-water bite for stripers has not started yet and should when the threadfin shad start to spawn which should be soon. It is late coming and it looks like the days of acres of stripers coming up back in the creeks in late Aptil and early May may be over. It used to be a sight to see The stripers are full of shad about 3-inches long and deep. A one ounce Many Shad spoon is working the best There are some bass coming up early and late but you cannot count on it. The striper, Hybrid and White Bass fishing was much better this morning and needed to be but they did not come up just a few small bass did. I am catching some Crappie back in the creeks casting a Bobby Garland Baby Shad Blue Ice on a 1/16th ounce white jig head with a red eye near any wood but not a lot and mostly singles. Channel Cats are starting to bite on live bluegill about 3-inches long. Flatheads will start soon. Remember Flatheads do not bite on dead, cut or prepared bait and they are the last fish in the lake to spawn and are one of my favorites. If there were nothing but Walleye, Crappie, Bluegill, Kentucky Bass and Flathead Catfish in the lake it would not bother me any. They are the best eating The lake overall is in excellent condition and at a good level but the water needs to rise past 70-degrees and the level does not need to rise anymore. Next week looks to be good fishing barring any storms.
