Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

This guy stopped by Blackburns on his way home and found out he paid $250 too much for a cabin, also paid for his boat stalll and stayed in a duplex/no covered porch. Image title

The lake level is 553.68 and is dropping slowly with no discharge for 4-days. They just started up the one operating generator at 9:AM this morning. The White River at Newport is 5.97 feet and very low indicating not much water is being released into the White River anywhere. The surface water temperature is 65-degrees and dropping with the cool nights. We got a frost here at Blackburns last night. The cold fronts just keep coming through but are not nearly as cold as in March. The wind has been incessant but layed just before dark last evening. It is to be nice for the next couple of days and then a good chance of rain starting Thursday continuing through the weekend with ambient temperature in the 70's for highs.  The results for the Cystic Fibrosis tournament have finally been published and are as follows: There were 260 boats, with 1/2 weighing in fish totaling 1,264 pounds with the winner catching 16.74 lbs. and big bass 4.9 pounds. Several caught over 13-lbs. The cold front, full moon and clear water did not help anythjing but there were a lot of sight bed fishermen and they did well. Some bass are in 30-ft. of water on the bottom for some reason. Some of the larger bass have spawned but not a lot. I still have not seen any evidence of a Threadfin Shad Spawn but there have been several reports but none first hand. They usually like 70-degrees or higher.  Basscat is next weekend and Blackburns still has one cabin open. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. I went crappie fishing last evening in the wind to mostly check things out. I do not keep fish during the spawn. I went back in creeks and fished any shallow wood with a Bobby Garland and caught mostly males in about 10-ft. of water. All were singles and staging for spawn. Many are still under Blackburns Dock and that is the only place I saw schools and they were in 13-14 ft. of water in shallow and larger females. I also do not fish my dock and leave that to my customers.  Also caught were two Kentucky Bass and One Smallmouth which were on brush a little deeper.  The fish are boat, trolling motor and line shy and except for bedding fish do not like bright sunshine and are very spooky with the too clear water. Fishing shadowy banks at sunset with any stain is the best. Other guests caught some walleye back in the creeks right on the bank. I did not catch any but did not go to my best walleye places. Blackburns is still the home of the $59/day one bedroom cabins and $79/day two bedrooms. Three and four bedrooms are priced accordingly. All either have screened-in porches or big covered porches to get out of the weather and all are individual with no duplexes. A free stall for your boat comes with the cabin at our dock. Come on down. We will not charge you too much. If you are rich and want to pay more stay at Blackburns and give the difference to disabled Veterans. When I get finished mowing I just start over again. Purple Matins, Hummingbirds and Gold Finches are all over the place and the Iris are blooming. It is nice here and the price is right.
