One smart Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental's Customer. He switched places to stay after they raised the price on him and saved $300 on a weeks stay. Image title

The lake level is 555.38 and has dropped 2-inches in the last 24-hours. They have been running the one operating generator for 8-hours from 9:AM to 5:PM and then shutting it off but are keeping the spillway gates open to an equivalent of 1-2/3rds generators. The White River at Newport is 15.21 feet and has leveled off. The slug of water from the 3.4 inches of rain is starting to move through but the level will rise if they slow down discharge. The muddy water in the creeks is starting to clear up a bit and is now a good color for fishing. It is about the color of a Northwest Ontario Lake.and like a dark tea. The surface water temperature in the creeks has not warmed yet but should warm up fast this weekend with ambient temperatures to get near 80 with sunshine. It is now 54 degrees.  The bright sunshine warms the stained water fast. We have been getting a steady dose of cold fronts killing fishing. It rains, clears off and then gets very cold at night every week but it is a typical March and not my favorite month. At least it is about over. The cold fronts get less severe as we get into April but still come. It should be only a couple of weeks before the top-water bite begins in earnest. It will be sporatic until them. Carry a pole with a 3/4 ounce spoon ready and if you see them coming up fling it out just past them. They always seem to be a little further than you can cast and spook when you get close to them but you can cast the spoon a long way. Hop it back keeping it from sinking as best you can. You can catch a lot of White Bass doing this soon if you want them. I do not have much use for them but they are fun to catch. Some Largemouth will be with them. The water temperature is the same back in the creeks as it is on the main lake but it is much more clear on the main lake. The fish have no reason to be in any particular place except for food now but that will change. The lake overall is in good condition and at a good level but we do not need anymore big rains. We were flooded out on this date last year. Fishing overall is fair at best but you can catch some if you know how and work at it. April is filling up here at Blackburns and people are anxious to get on the water and out of the house. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We will not charge you too much and we especially welcome Veterans and Police. Old Glory and the Thin Blue Line Flag fly proudly over Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. We like that.
