Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

Our big apple tree is in full bloom and it looks like spring but you cannot trust March. Image title

The lake level is 553.60 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday with the one operating generator running for a couple of hours and then shutting it down again. The White River at Newport is 5.46 feet and very low and they are not letting any water out into the White River anywhere. I guess they are waiting for it to get high and then opening up the flood gates and wasting the water and not getting any power from it. Sounds like a plan to me especially if it is run by the government.  The water is clear down to about 9-feet and very clear near the shore. The surface water temperature is just over 50 on the main lake and in the early to mid 50's back in the creeks in shallow water. A few fish are moving back into the creeks in the warmer water especially bass and a few crappie. There are some trollers out there in the open water fishing stripers on shad but they are looking far and wide for them to catch a few in the 5-8 pound range. I would not like to pay their gas bill. They have not moved to the spawning banks at dark yet. The larger Crappie that I am catching are not far away from the spawn and the males will move to the creeks just deeper than the spawn area. You will see some trollers start to catch some as they drag stuff along the shoreline. It is not good for the crappie population to catch all of these male fish. It is much better to wait until the spawn is over and they return to the shallower brush piles Taking pictures of endgates, dock floors and live wells full of dead fish makes people look like they do not care about the lake or future fishing. Catch a few, keep a few and release a few. It would be good to have the Grandchildren be able to catch some fish. The lake overall is in excellent condition and at a good level but fishing is just fair. What is good is Blackburns has 1-bedroom cabins for $59/day, 2-bedrooms for $79/day with 3&4 bedrooms priced accordingly. All cabins are individual with no duplexes and they come with a free stall for your boat at our dock. You can launch right here. Come on down. We will not charge you too much and we especially welcome Veterans and Police. If you are staying at a place where you are the only customer you are either at the wrong place, paying too much or both.
