The lake level is 553.62 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday. They did start up the one operating generator at 9:AM this morning after four days of nothing. The White River at Newport is 5.76 feet and very low. Still no effort to drop the lake going into the spring rains. I found a near 50-degree water temperature on the main lake and in the low 50's back in the creeks. The further back you go the warmer it gets. I still did not find very many fish there but it should happen soon. I will know when the bluegill return to under my dock. The stick bait is not working yet but will soon. There may be some in the back of the larger creeks like Big creek and Float creek but I am not willing to go that far to find them. I stay mostly from just north of Cranfield Island to Robinson Island and usually catch all of the fish I want. Now I am having a hard time catching my limit of five fish but my confidence is low during the first part of March.  Fishing is like the government. Do not expect much do not get much. I will be releasing the fish until the spawn is over anyway but like seeing if I can catch them. When it gets tough I switch to the grub and minnow. I am not a crank bait fisherman but a lot of people are. They catch a lot of active fish. We have a good chance of getting a storm tonight and need the rain badly. The water clarity remains good and I can see my lure down about 6-feet. March is the month of wind and cold fronts where fishing turns on and off like a light switch. (mostly off)  I am opening up several more cabins so if you were unable to get in bacause we were full you will be able to do so soon. I have not increased the prices and you can still get a 1-bedroom cabin for $59/day that comes with a free stall for your boat at our dock. We want our repeat customers to have an affordable vacation and are not trying to see how much money we can get from you. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We will not charge you too much.  No duplexes here.
