The lake level is 554.03 and has been the same for three days. They are not generating but are letting the same amount out of the spillway gates as is coming in the river about the equivalent of 1/3rd generator. The White River at Newport is 15.32 feet and dropping quickly with not much water being let out into the White River anywhere. The surface water temperature was 48--degrees last evening and it was surprising how much the water had cleared since the day before. I could see my lure down 8-9 feet and you could see the bottom several feet from shore. The creeks had even cleared. The wind has shifted to from the North and it was cooler than the day before but not bad and in the 50's. I spooned and grubbed a brush pile in 23-feet and caught a few and then grubbed a main lake bank at sunset and caught several bass (including a smallmouth) and came in at dark. It was very pleasant out with few boats and the wind quit a sunset. The fish near the bank hit at about 10-feet of water. The bass will move farther back in the creeks as soon as the water warms but it is about the same there as on the main lake now. I am not catching as many crappie as I was but have been mostly bass fishing. I hope the water level stays stable during the spawn. We need a good one. There are a lot of meat hunters out there. About every other fisherman is a guide. The lake is in good condition and at a good level and I hope it stays that way. They are reluctant to lower the lake for the winter and like keeping us just one big rain from being too high. Maybe we won't get one. Blackburns is the family place so it you are coming for a summer vacation give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We have the best prices in the Ozarks and a free stall for your boat comes with the cabin. We will not charge you too much and there are no price increases for 2024.
