Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

It's getting warmer. Image title

The lake level is 554.24 and has dropped about 3/4 of an inch in the last 24-hours. They closed to gates again and turned on the one operable generator. The new generator is to produce more electricity with the overhall but has not yet. Maybe they just do not have it wide open. They may be just opening gates and running the generator intermittantly to break it in. Otherwise they are wasting a lot of money. The White River at Newport is 18.66 feet and rising again with Bull Shoals running about 4-generators. They have not generated much from there lately and it has been rising. It is 3-feet below the top of the power pool and Norfork is just 1/2 ft. above. They usually try to keep them about equal but Bull holds a lot more water than Norfork. It looks like the rain is finally over for a few days and it is sunny and nice but a little windy. There was snow on the ground on this date last year but Blackburns has daffodils coming us now. I like that better. I would really like the lake to be about 6-7 feet lower than it is now going into the spring rains. Last year they flooded us out the latter part of March but brought it down fairly quickly. It would be nice for them to tell us their water management policy but they are government and have no accountability and it is hard to read their minds. A little information would help us manage our business. All they ever say is the dams were built to hold water and they are doing their job. Fortunately Blackburns has lake access no matter how high the water gets. I just have to increase my road maintenance budget. The county does not maintain the roads anymore and it is up to me. I can handle it. Bass fishing is the best right now and it is not the best. I am catching a few of them and also some crappie but not a lot. Striper fishermen are fishing all day and catching one or two or none. I fish from about 4:PM until dark after I get my work done at the resort. It is less than a month until I open up the rest of the cabins. We have been servicing boats all winter and are about finished. Things are looking pretty good around here. Come on down and visit. We will not charge you too much and your first boat stall is free.  Scuba Steve will show you where the best brush piles are located.
