Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountain Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

Savannah Willis with some nice ones. Norfork Lake has some big crappie. Image title

The lake level is 554.52 and has dropped 1-3/4 inches in the last 24-hours. They run the one operating generator for a few hours and then shut it off and open sluice gates equal to one generator. I do not know why they do this. The White River at Newport is 19.20 feet and dropping but more rain is on the way tomorrow. There is still some runoff from the hills into the lake. The surface water temperature is 47-degrees and it does not look like there will be a shad kill this year. The water is clearing and Scuba Steve could see his lure down about 7-feet last evening. It is more clear near the shore. I went bass fishing last evening and caught and released my limit on brush in 24-feet of water. I caught one before sunset and the rest from sunset until dark. You have about 1-hour of good fishing. Bass fishing is getting better. The middle of the day is not good. There are still several striper fishermen in the Howards Cove area and they are catching a few but working hard to get them. The boats are all in a covey in the same area trolling around each other looking at their new live scopes. They have fancy center console boats with big motors so they can get there fast, down imaging, side imaging, live imaging and trolling motors that self-deploy with spot lock or anchor and spend hours running around looking for feeding fish. They have throw nets, shad tanks, umbrellas, a dozen rod holders, cannon balls, downriggers, planer boards and balloons. It is almost comical to see what they do and how much money they spend on equipment and fuel to catch a put and take red meat fish. I am too poor to afford all of those things but still am able to catch a few fish. Home-field advantage and experience helps. In order for me to afford those things I would have to charge more at the resort for cabins and boat rentals. I prefer to keep prices low and  let our many repeat customers have an affordable vacation. Our money is spent on resort improvements. Come on down and check us out. We have the best place and the best prices in the Ozarks. No price increases this year. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115. We especially welcome Veterans and Police. A free boat stall at our dock comes with the cabin.
