The lake level is 554.84 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously. They started the generator and closed all gates about two days ago. One generator is still inoperable. The White River at Newport is 20.82 ft. and starting to drop a little. The surface water temperature was just over 43-degrees yesterday evening and has cooled just a bit with all of the cold water runoff. The weather has been beautiful with sunny skies and in the early 60's. It is to warm more tomorrow with a chance of rain on Sunday. We do not need any more rain for a while. The water is stained a little green and you can see your lure down about 4-feet. It is more clear near the shore. January is finally over and all of the frost is out of the ground and things are looking pretty good except that the lake is too high for this time of year. They have one more chance to get it down before spring rains but have been reluctant to do so. They seem to want to regulate to just at the top of the power pool of 553.75 and then quit for some reason. At least they have one generator running. The Bass have started to bite a little better as have the Crappie and I have been catching both on brush piles in about 25-feet of water in the evening and not much in the middle of the day. They are about 20-feet down. Trollers are still catching a few small Stripers and White Bass in the Howards Cove area and a few bass and crappie are with them on shad in deep water. Go to Howards cove and look for the boats.  Get some live bait or an umbrella and drag them through the shad. I went to a differen brush pile yesterday and found the fish but not nearly as big as the ones caught earlier. I will leave those alone for a while. I caught my biggest Crappie of the year yesterday but it is only January.  I put some of the big ones in Tom Kelly's trophy pond. It has just been nice to be out in the sunshine and not have to wear all of the clothes you own with batteries included. Hopefully that is over. There were more boats out there yesterday in the ideal conditions. Come on down for a visit. Blackburns is open all year and have the best prices in the Ozarks.
