Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region fishing Report and Lake Condition By Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

Mike Eakle with some nice ones released in Tom Kelly's Trophy Pond. Fishing is getting better. Image title

The lake level is 553.35 and dropping slowly with only minimum flow from the dams. The White River at Newport is 4.54 feet and a little higher than it has been but still very low. The surface water temperature was 57-degrees when Scuba Styeve came in at dark last evening. The water clarity varies a bit but he could see his lure down about 6-feet in the sunshine on the main lake point where he was fishing.  The lake overall is at a good level and in good condition for fishing. I am fishing brush piles for walleye, crappie, bass, catfish and bluegill. Others are going crazy catching several red meat fish and I have caught all of them that I care to. They are put and take and have to be stocked every year or they are gone but I am happy they are having fun catching them. It keeps the meat hunters busy catching them and leaving my choice fish alone. I go out with Bink's a couple of times of year and catch them and have fun fishing with him but that is enough for me. That does not mean that I do not know how to catch them. I have caught more than my share. Use live bait, clip a weight in front of a crank bait, vertical jig a spoon or drag an umbrella through schools of shad and sooner or later you will catch some. The big ones used to be 30-lbs and now they are 10-lbs. Trolling is not for me. I like the thump and the hook set. It is good that Norfork has a variety of fish and different people like to catch different things. Some place have only one species.  If you are in the area stop by and check out Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.
