Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

The lake level is 553.40 and is creeping up with no dam discharge except for minimum flow. The White River at Newport s 2.96 feet and is still very low with not much water being released anywhere. The surface water temperature is 70-degrees and the clarity is pretty good with good visibility down to past 35-feet. It is raining now and it is to continue through tomorrow with a possible 2-3 inches here. When the high pressure comes in after the rain it is to get very cold with frost. Bring in your plants and unhook your garden hoses. It looks like my scuba diving days are about over for this year. It has been a very good season with a steady water level and pretty good visibility. Spearfishing is excellent right now and it might warm back up again the first part of November. Pole fishing is not the best right now but crappie and Kentucky Bass are the best bite. The crappie are shallow and roaming and can be caught with a live minnow on a slip-float set about 5-feet further down than you can see your bait right over the brush piles from 18-30 ft. of water on the main lake. The fish that I am cleaning are void of any food in them and the pre-winter bite has not started yet. It could at any time. The fish can sense when the water is going to cool down and their metabolism is going to slow. Fish are cold water vertebrates and do not get more active in cold water but slow way down. That is why you need to slow down your presentation as the water cools. There are a few red meat fish being caught but they are hard to find and harder to stay on. It is best to fish brush right now. The full moon is the 27th of November and the stripers should start to bite a little before then. I do not fish for them anymore but have already caught my share. I am a walleye, crappie, bass and flathead catfish guy. They all reproduce in the lake and are not put and take like the hybrids and stripers. There are sure some nice bluegill out there and they are in the same place as the crappie and bass. If you can get crickets they are the best bait especially off docks. If you are in the Mountain Home area and looking for real estate, waiting for a property to close, waiting for inspection work to be done, working from out of town or just visiting family that have no room for you stop by Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental. We are closest to Mountain Home, dining and shopping and have the best prices in the Ozarks and are pet friendly. The kitchen cabins are very nice and one bedrooms are $59/day. Two bedrooms are $79/day. 3&4 bedrooms are priced accordingly. No sense staying in a motel with no cooking privileges and being forced to eat all meals out. You can save a lot of money by staying here. We have peace and quiet but are still very close to town on 28-acres in a green valley surrounded by forrest. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We will not charge you too much and a free stall for your boat comes with the cabin.
