Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fall foliage, Fishing and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

John Bornhop with another nice one. He is the only good fisherman from St. Charles, right Tater?Image title

The lake level is 553.16 and is creeping up again with no discharge for over two days. The White River at Newport is 3.50 feet and dropping. They are reluctunt to drop the lake below 553. The surface water temperature was 76-degrees yesterday evening and also dropping with the cool nights. The ambient temperature is to warm up starting today to near 80 later this week and then cool again this weekend. The fall foliage is progressing nicely and changing slowly and is on schedule for a peak late this month. It looks to be very good this year barring any big winds. The roadways are changing more quickly that the hillsides. Fishing is improving and crappie and Kentucky Bass are the best bites. The crappie are staying put more than before and are schooled on main lake brush in 18-30 foot of water. Gravelly main lake banks are the best. Kentucky Bass are with them and a few largemouth. Smallmouth were moving in but I have not seen very many in the last few days. The big Bluegill bite is also good on crickets and small spoons. Bink is still catching a few stripers and larger walleye but I am not. It will be interesting to see if there is a night bite for stripers next month around the full moon. They move to the bank to feed at dark but have not done so for the last few years. It used to be a very good time to catch big ones in the past and a lot of people were out there but not so much anymore. Maybe it is because most of the larger ones are gone. Blackburns is the home of the $59/day one bedroom cabins and they come with a free stall at our dock for your boat. 2-bedrooms are $79/day with 3&4 bedrooms priced accordingly. Can't beat that anywhere. We are the best value in the Ozarks and are closest to Mountain Home dining and shopping. Come on down. We will not charge you too much.
