The lake level is 553.38 and is rising very slowly with no discharge for several days. The White River at Newport is 2.21 feet and about ready to dry up. The surface water tmeperature is 79-80 degrees and stable with the warm ambient temperatures. It looks to cool down starting today with good chances of rain. I went diving yesterday and the water was the same in temperature and visibility down to 40-feet where it cooled off where the sun does not penetrate. I saw no fish below 40-feet. Visibility had diminished a little from the day before but not much. The summer thermocline has been gone for about 2-weeks now in this area and fishing conditions are getting better every day. What I did find was a lot of crappie and bass in and around brush in 18-23 feet of water More and more are moving in everyday. You can not go out every few days and look at your fish finder and know what is going on. You have to get down there amonst em and see for yourself. I am not seeing very many walleye and the ones that are there are mostly small. More and more largemouth and a few smallmouth are now joining in with the plentiful Kentuckies. Other schooled fish are partway back in the creeks and feeding on shad shallow both early and late. I do not fish in the dark, troll or use mulitiple rods. It is hard enough for me to keep one straight in the light but I do not lose many fish. Almost none. All of the hard work putting in brush piles is paying off now. it would be good if more people would do so. The lake is at a good level and condition and the fishing is improving. It looks to be a good fall barring anything drastic happening. Blackburns is still the home of the $59/day 1-bedroom cabins and they come with a free stall for your boat at our dock. All cabins are individual with no duplexes and all have big covered porches to get out of the sun and rain. Come on down and we will not charge you too much but will help you catch a couple of fish. This is the time of year for peace and quiet and no drama. You can relax here.
