The lake level is 553.42 and has dropped 2-inches in the last 24-hours with sluice gates opened to an equivalent of 3/4 of a generator since noon yesterday. after about 10-days of no discharge. The White River at Newport is 3.04 feet and rising but is still very low. The surface water temperature is 79-degrees and stable with the above average ambient temperatures which are to continue through next weekend. The main lake is fairly clear and the creeks are clearing but still stained green. This is as early of a lake turnover as I have seen which usually happens about October 10th but there is nothing normal anymore. I usually say October is the worst month for fishing but it has a good chance of being better this year but it came at the expense of the last half of September which has been poor. We have received regular rains and everything is very green. The Walnut leaves are falling and we could have a good fall foliage year for a change. When asked when the best time to fish I always say May amd November and I always catch a lot of fish during Thanksgiving. The good top-water Bite usually is in full swing by the last of April. The lake overall is in good condition and at a good level but fishing is fair at best with Kentucky Bass and Crappie being the best bite but they are hit and miss. Try fishing the steep river channel banks at the first drop-off for Kentucky Bass with a creature bait and A slip float with a live minnow right in the brush on Main Lake Points and set your float down to about 5-feet further than you can see your minnow. Good luck. Blackburns is still the home of the $59/day one bedroom cabins and $79/day two bedrooms. and they come with a free stall for your boat.
