The lake level is 553.70 and rising slowly with no discharge for five days. They shut the sluice gates and are trying to dry up the White River for some reason. It is 3.54 feet at Newport. This is not the time to take a boat out on the river unless you plan on repairs. It is good for the wade fishermen that know where the pools are located and the fish are trapped there and hungry. I say White Bass are for people that cannot catch anything else and trout are for people that cannot catch White Bass. The surface water temperature is 85-degrees and stable and that is the average ambient high temperature. The average low is 62. We have been well above that and it is getting very dry. The thermocline is at 32-feet and there are fish of several different species suspended at or around that depth  no matter how deep the water. Some are in open water on shad and others are on main lake brush. The lake boat traffic will slow way down at about 5-PM today and we should get back to normal. I am sure a jet ski is good for something but have not been able to figure out what it is except for going back in creeks near docks and people swimming, making big wakes and teaching young people how to tear up equipment. I am prejudice though and if you cannot fish out of it I do not have much use for it. If the weather stays quiet the lake should clear again after the holiday churning in just a couple of days especially on main lake channel banks with steep rocky shorelines. Spoons are the best lures now but you can catch some big bluegill and a few crappie on slip floats with live minnows right over brush about 5-feet further down than you can see your bait. Blackburns goes on their off-season rates tomorrow and you can get a 1-bedroom cabin for $59/day and a two bedroom for $77 and they come with a free stall for your boat. 3&4 bedrooms are priced accordingly.  It is time for fall fishing so come on down and we will not charge you too much. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation as Blackburns is the first resort to fill up and you will have to pay much more elsewhere. Much more. No sense in that unless you just have too much money. If you do, stay at Blackburns and give the difference to disabled Veterans.
