The lake level is 557 even and they opened up sluice gates to an equivalent of 2/3rds of a generator for 10-hours. They are letting out very little water and the level is creeping up and the White River at Newport is 4.86 feet and very low and has been for weeks. You would think they would be able to fix the generators after both being down for several weeks but they must be busy doing more important things. The surface water temperature was 87-degrees yesterday afternoon and there were several boats out there making the main lake rough. Most were pulling around overweight children on chaise lounges but there were several jet skis helping out. I was surprised at the boat traffice being Sunday evening. I will check out thermocline and water clarity later today after the work is done. Bink is still catching several stripers deep with his spoon and jug fishermen are catching some channel cats and others catching more off the dock along with some nice bluegill. For bluegill use 4-lb. test clear line with a #6 hook and a very small split shot about a foot above the hook and bait with a live cricket. Flip the bait out about 10-12 feet and let it sink towards you. They will bite on the drop. The crappie are below that and biting the 1/8th ounce spoon. After dark bass fishermen are doing well with the black light. Bass are full of crawdads so they are feeding shallow some time or another and it is usually after dark. The weather is to be very warm and sunny for the next several days and it will be a good time to bring the children to Blackburns for a visit before school starts.
