Scuba Steve with some nice ones spearfishing on Norfork Lake.
The lake level is 556.30 and has risen 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with sluice gates open to an equavalent of 2/3rds of a generator for about 10-hours. The White River at Newport is 4.73 feet and very low indicating not much water is being let out anywhere. We did receive a shower yesterday afternoon but they were scattered and only amounted to about 0.2 inches here. We are very dry. The very hot weather only lasted a couple of days but it is still very warm with highs around 90. Less than was predicted. Storms are going on all around us but we continue to be spared of any severe weather so far. The first part of July is a dangerous time for this area. The holiday is in full swing and there are boats and vehicle traffic everywhere. The traffic in town is as bad as on the lake. Between the bridges is the busiest place on the lake and it is getting churned up good. This is not a time to take a flat bottom boat out for an afternoon fishing trip. There are a lot of law enforcement out there. Do not come to visit for vacation and leave on probation. The surface water temperature is rising and is about 87-88 degrees and warmer back in the creeks. The water clarity is shot with the warmer weather and boat rtraffic but will get better after this mess is over the water settle out again. Get out very early for deep striper fishing with a spoon and then bass fishermen are catching some good largemouth with the blacklight and saltcraws from about 10PM to Midnight. Otherwise put a seat belt on your bass boat. Blackburns has a cancelleation for a cabin and p[ontoon boat for next week so give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We will not charge you too much.
