Scuba Diving conditions are as good as they have been for years. We have a dive boat for you to rent and will help you when you get here.
The lake level is 556.87 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday with sluice gates open to an equivalent of one generator for about 9-hours. They are letting out the same as is coming in by the river. The White River at Newport is 7.1 feet and dropping. The surface water temperature is still 82 degrees and has been fairly stable for over a week. It should warm up a bit with the upcoming hot ambient temperatures in the 90's. The thermocline is dropping slowly and there is cold water at 20-feet and a mud line of 4-feet above that. It is clear from the surface down to about 15-feet and again in the cold water. The lake overall is in excellent condition and at a good level for fishing, boating, swimming and has the best conditions for Scuba Diving in years. The stable water level and the small moon is making for some pretty good catfishing both off the dock and on trot lines. Use live bluegill or shiners for flatheads. Blues and channels will bite on about anything but live bait is the best. If you set jugs drop shot them with three or four hooks on the main line with a weight on the bottom. That way when it blows into thje bank you are still fishing. The wind direction is also important when putting them out. Bink reports catching a lot of fish early with his spoon deep in at least 50-ft. of water near the bottom including walleye and stripers. Drop the spoon on their heads. Other walleye and bass are on main lake points in 20-ft. of water. Use a spoon for walleye and plastic worm or saltcraw for bass. Bluegill are biting crickets off docks and on brush shallow on small spoons. Blackburns still has the best prices on both cabins and rental boats and a free boat stall comes with your cabin. Come on down and we will not charge you too much. If you are not staying at Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental you are paying too much. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation. We especially welcome Veterans and Police.
