The lake level is 557.05 and has dropped 1-inch in the last 24-hours with sluice gates open to an equivalent of 1-2/3 generators for about 9-hours. The White River at Newport is 7.79 feet and has leveled off. They are not letting out much water anywhere and are keeping the area lake levels right around the tops of the power pools. The surface water temperature was 82-degrees and the main lake was clear with a little green stain in the creeks when Scuba Steve came in last evening.  There is a thermocline at 16-17 feet with a little cloudy water just above that with some particulates. Walleye and bass are hanging out right at or just above the thermocline and the bass are coming up shallow to feed on crawdads in the evening. There is still some top-water bass early. Stripers and some larger walleye are on shad deep in 70-90-feet of water 60-feet down. The best way to get down to them is with a spoon. Crappie fishing is getting better and they are schooled and roaming for fry from cover to cover. They do not like bright sunshine or clear water.  The Scuba Diving Spearfishing season opens today and Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental has a diving boat just ready for your rental at the best prices and yes Scuba Steve knows where the walleye are located and Scuba Doo Dive Shop is located just 1/2 mile away and is full service. The conditions are the best they have been for years and now is a good time to book a trip. The visibility is just right at the right depth and you can see just about as far as you can shoot. You do not want any clearer water. Give Debbie a call at 870-492-5115 for a reservation and come on down and join the fun. We will not charge you too much and a free boat stall comes with your cabin rental. You will like it here and the price is right.
