The lake level is 556 even and has risen 3.2 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running just a few hours. The White River at Newport is 15.99 feet and has leveled off. The water clarity is stained back in the Creeks and fairly clear on the main lake and you can see your lure down about 7-feet. The surface water temperature is in the low 70's and the normal ambient high is 76 degrees. Last year on this date the water level was 570.72 and the White River was 22.24 and we are in much better condition than then with all campgrounds, launches and parking back to nornal with the Memorial Day holiday just two weeks away. The top-water bite for bass and stripers continues to be the best on cloudy days but they still come up in the sunshine but not nearly as long. Cast a Bobby Garland Baby Shad Blue Ice color on a 1/16th ounce white with red eye jig head on 4-lb. clear line past the brush and let it sink in and you will catch crappie if they are there. Catfish are biting on live bluegills on a throw line or a drop-shotted jug part way back in the creeks. Stripers are biting top-water lures early and bass are with them and the bass are also coming up in the evening. Switch to 3-inch swim baits after the top-water is over. Use a creature bait on an 3/16th ounce jig head for Smallmouth on shallow pea gravel banks and just around points. The Bluegill and carp are wanting to spawn badly. Overall the lake is in excellent condition for both boating and fishing. Come on down to Blackburns and we will not charge you too much. A free boat stall comes with your cabin and all cabins are individual with no duplexes and all have big covered porches. That is very important. Not very many places have a baby pool or a pool slide and the pool is 30x60. You can swim laps.
