Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental

The lake level is 554.53 and is exactly what it was at this time yesterday with about eight hours of running part of a generator or a full generator. The surface water tmeperature is 64-degrees and stable. The White River at Newport is 13.78 feet and dropping and headed for 12-feet. The water clarity is improving especially near the shore with the much less water discharge but the wind is stirring things up. It is to slow later today but has made fishing difficult. We have one more big two day fishing tournament coming up on Friday and then things should calm down a bit until the summer holidays start at the end of this month. The lake is at a good level and it would not bother me if it stayed here all of the time. Level good, color good, temperature good and fishing improving. I am still catching big crappie that have not spawned yet and am trying to catch spawned out ones on brush piles. Blackburns brush piles are at good levels now after some of them being too deep until the water dropped to a normal level. The North wind has blown a lot of bait fish back into the North facing creeks and bass are feeding on them in the morning and evening. Keep your boat in about 30-feet of water and cast to the shore with a creature bait on a jig head, jig and minnow or a small swim bait and you could catch about anything. When the water temperature reaches 70 the bluegill will spawn and the fry with move to cover around brush and there will be fish all over in from 15-25 feet of water especially on big brush piles that come close to the surface. I like fishing for Warmouth right on the bank with a grub and minnow. This is a good time of year and all we need is for the wind to lay and no big rains in the Norfork River Basin. The weather usually gets very warm very quickly in May. We planted the garden yesterday and I am mowing every week. We are dry and could use some rain. We were 3-inches of rain low for the month of April  with less than 2-inches but still a couple of inches over average for the year. The normal high temperature is 73-degrees. Come on down and visit Blackburns and we will not charge you too much. Compare prices before you book. Some are even charging for your first boat stall. I am not out to prove how many fish I can catch but will help you if you ask.  There are a lot of fish under the dock.
