Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns resort and Boat Rental

Lindo Snodgrass caught and released some nice ones by the dock yesterday. He knows how to catch those flatheads.Image title  Image title

The lake level is 553.52 and has dropped 4-inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running continuously and spilway gates opened to an equivalent of another 1-1/2 generators. They just open them up a little more last hour. The White River at Newport is 23.84 and has leveled off and has been close to that for a couple of weeks. They are predicting that the level will be at the top of the power pool of 553.75 on May 2nd. I would like it to get back to below 560 as quickly as it can. The surface water temperature was 66-degrees in Blackburns Creek area when I came in at about 7:PM last evening. The bright sunshine and very light wind is warming the tea colored water very quickly and is about as fast as I have seen it rise. This has started the morning and evening top-water bite in earnest now for both bass and red meat fish. I have learned over the years not to try and predict much as it will come around and bite you except for the full moon in March night striper bite and the April 15th top-water bite. It should get better and better now until late May and sometimes beyond. The lake has been very slow to clear in this area but water clarity varies and you can find whatever you want somewhere on the lake. Overall it is in good condition for fishing. What you do not want is very muddy water or too clear of water. Smaller Stripers, white bass and bass are all coming up now at or just before sunrise in their normal places. No rain is forecasted for this area until next Saturday and nothing serious then. One thing is for sure is that Blackburns has the best cabins and boat rentals for the best prices and a free boat stall comes with your cabin. That you can predict.
