Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

These are Scuba Steve's Best ones yesterday. Off to Tom Kelly's Trophy Pond. Image title

The lake level is 552.53 and has dropped 1.2 inches in the last 24-hours with one full generator running for about 5-hours. The White River at Newport is 4.83 feet so they are still not letting out much water anywhere. The surface water temperature is 62-degrees and has dropped 5-degrees in the last week. That is a lot for this deep lake. The clarity has diminished a bit and you can see your lure down abou 3-4 feet on a cloudy day and 5-feet in the sunshine. To say the least, it has been cold and windy with the north and northwest wind trying to blow through you and the ambient temperature struggling to get out of the 30's on most days.  People thinking the conditions are good must be from Maine or the UP. This is January weather in the middle of November when the average temperature should be 59-degrees. At least we missed the last forecasted snow. A week ago I was scuba diving. Not now. I have been catching some good fish but not a lot. I go out about 3:PM (which is the warmest time of the day) and come in at dark. I am not charging out there at daylight that is for sure. I do not hate them that bad. It may get back to 50 next week. That will be much better. My best bite has been pretty good sized crappie casting a small grub tipped with a minnow or a jig past the 25-30 ft. brush pile on the main, lake and letting it sink into it. They start biting about 4-PM and hit it near the surface as it drops. They stop again just before dark. I also use the same stuff part way back in the creeks in front of brush. Some large crappie are very shallow near the bank along with some nice Kentucky Bass. I stop when I am on my way to my spot when I see schools of fish in open water and drop a spoon but they are mostly small white bass about a foot long. They are fun to catch but I am not interested in them. I did catch a channel catfish spooning a brush pile for crappie. I did take it to Tom Kelly's Trophy pond along with five nice crappie and two Kentucky bass. It is getting stocked up for the spring fishing. It needs a few more walleye but I have not been catching any lately. Bulletin: No price increases on anything here at Blackburns again this year. We will hold them for as long as we can. We take care of our customers here and do not charge them too much. They can say what they want. Inflation is not getting any lower.
