Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region Fishing Report and Lake Condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

John Bornhop with a nice one yesterday. He is from St. Charles, Missouri and is a good fisherman. Image title

The lake level is 553.17 and is the same as at this time yesterday with 1/2 generator running for a few hours. The White River at Newport is 5.33 ft. The surface water temperature was 66 degrees yesterday afternoon when I went out. The morning bite seems to be a little better than the evening. If you want some nice big bluegill this is the time. They are biting minnows and small spoons on top of brush. We are still catching some nice walleye almost everyday but not a lot. They are also on main lake brush or just around the points to the inside in 20-25 ft. of water near the bottom. 1/4 or 3/8th ounce Bink's Spoons are working the best. I am not catching large numbers of crappie but the ones I am catching are very good sized. The weather is holding so far but it is to get very cold compared to now this weekend with highs in the 40's and lows in the 20's. Our normal high is 61. We had one cold front in October with freezing temperatures followed by a warm up and this looks to be another one.  The full moon is bringing stripers shallow to feed late evening but most are small.  Several fish of different species are on shad in open water and are replacing the larger stripers that are gone. This is the time to catch the larger ones that are left and they can be released successfully this time of year. A stick bait is starting to work in the late evening near the shore north of Cranfield Island. In the morning trollers are dragging crank baits and umbrellas through schools of shad on windblown banks in about 25-30 ft.of water. After catching one or two they are hard to keep track of and you will spend more time looking than fishing. They are always moving and spook easily but some fish can be caught if that is how you want to do it. Overall fishing is just fair and the lake is in excellent condition and clearing nicely in the creeks after the fast rain. Blackburns still has one bedroom cabins for $59/day and two bedrooms for $77/day and they come with a free stall for your boat. Come on down. It is nice here and we will not charge you too much.
