The lake level is 552.80 and is the same as it was at this time yesterday with just over an hour of running 3/4 of a generator. The White River at Newport is 4.01 feet and the surface water temperature was 69-degrees yesterday when I went out. The wind continues and is getting to be a pain. A low pressure is coming in tomorrow and it looks like we could get some serious rain for a change. The heaviest is to be around Kansas City and just west of there and north but we could miss the strong storms. It should be gone by Tuesday afternoon. The wind has made it difficult for me to stay on my favorite fishing spots without a lot of effort but I have still been able to get some nice walleye. It has been good for bass fishermen fishing the windblown banks with crankbaits but not so good for brush fishermen trying to fish a spoon straight up and down. It would be ok if it was steady but it is gusty and swirling. The wind has blown the plankton and the bait fish have followed into the south facing creeks and some temperate bass are part way back including Hybrid Stripers from 2-3 pounds an some nice sized White Bass. They are roaming and hard to stay on. A good place to start is Hensley's Creek. Blackburns Creeks was full of them on Friday but the south wind blew them back out and across the lake. I get tired of chasing them around in the open water and do not eat them anyway. They are OK if you cannot catch any Walleye, Crappie, Kentucky Bass or Flathead Catfish. They fight good though. The walleye have moved to the front and around brush on the main lake points and just around the inside in 20-ft. of water. They are paired and also roaming but not far. Fish right up until it rains you out tomorrow for the best results. I am getting a few crappie but they are very spooky and I can get only one or two at each place. Casting a jig past the brush and letting it sink into it is still the best. Blackburns Still has 1-bedroom cabins for $59/day and they come with a free stall for yoiur boat. Come on down. We will not charge you too much.
