The lake level is 553.82 and has dropped about 3/4 inch in the last 24-hours with less generation. The White River at Newport is 4.81 feet and still very low. The surface water temperature was 78 degrees yesterday when I went out and the visibility was not as good as the day before but still ok. The thermocline starts at 37-feet with cool water and is cold at 40-feet. There are a lot of fish of different varieties right at these depths including shad. Not as many fish are on the brush piles now as a few days earlier but there are some good ones including walleye, Kentucky Bass, Crappie and Bluegill. I am not seeing as many White Bass as usual for this time of year and certainly not nearly as many as several years ago. Small walleye are on the brush in 27-30 ft. but some larger ones have moved shallower to 20-ft. Most of the fish are now either at 20-ft. or at 40-ft. For open water fish it does not matter how deep the water is but they are suspended at 37-40 ft. just at or just above the start of the thermocline. The stripers are roaming and hard to stay on after catching one. I am not seeing very many big black bass either but they are there just not where I am fishing. Kentucky Bass and crappie remain the best bite and spoons the best lure. Blackburns is the home of the $59/day 1-bedroom cabin and it comes with a stall for your boat for free.
