Caught on the Bink's Spoon yesterday.
The lake level is 554.93 and has dropped one inch in the last 24-hours with 1-1/2 generators running for about seven hours in the afternoon and evening. The White River at Newport is at 7.69 feet and they are not letting out much water in any of the area lakes. The surface water temperature is 84-degrees and the creeks are stained and the main lake was a little more cloudy than the day before but the visibility was still pretty good for this time of year. It usually gets better as the water cools but the heavy boat traffic this holiday weekend will not help anything. We received 0.4 inches of rain last night and this morning and it is raining now. The grass is growing about as fast as it can after the hot dry summer. Everything that was brown is as green as it can get. September is here and the walnut trees are losing their leaves. It looks to be a good fall if we can avoid all of the heavy rain that has been all around us. At almost 555 lake level their is not much surge capacity and we could easily get high water again. They just refuse to let it out. We should be at below 552 this time of year. Scuba diving conditions are the best they have been in years. If you want some nice fish just go to main lake points with brush piles in 27-30 ft. of water and drop a spoon. Walleye, Black and Kentucky Bass, crappie and bluegill are all there at various depths. Some are suspended and some are near the bottom. The 3/8th ounce white with a chartreuse back is working the best. The crappie are also biting on a 1/16th ounce jig cast past the brush and sinking into it and live minnows on a slip float set just above the top of the brush is also working. You can catch about as many Kentucky Bass as you want. Once this holiday is over Blackburn's prices drop to their off-season rates where you can get a one bedroom cabin for $59/day. All cabins are individual with no duplexes and all have covered porches to get out of the rain or sun. The cabin comes with a free boat stall for your boat or you can rent a boat here at the best prices in the Ozarks. Some others charge for your first boat stall. Come on down. We will not charge you too much and we especially welcome Veterans and Police. We are a no drama resort with the largest swimming pool in the area and it is ready for your visit. If you are in the area, stop by before you leave and check us out. You will like what you see. Why pay more?
