Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains region fishing report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat Rental.

The lake level is 564.01 and has dropped 2-1/2 inches in the last 24-hours with one generator running since yesterday afternoon. The White River at Newport is dropping and is at 13.29 and it looks like they are going to start regulating it to 12-ft.which means it will take a lot longer to get the area lakes down to their normal level They have slowed generation at all lakes in the last couple of days. The 12-ft. rule is not only stupid but ridiculous. The minor flood level at Newport is 26-feet and they can regulate to 23-feet without hurting anybody downstream. It has not rained for a month and 1/2 and they still cannot control things. There is no reason to wait until August 20th to get back to the power pool which is also too high. They keep changing and raising that. It cooled down a bit yesterday and was perfect for boating and swimming. The surface water temperature was 88-89 and the water appears clear from the surface but gets very cloudy at about 19-feet until about 28-feet where it gets cold and more clear. The fish are mostly in the mud line from 23-27 feet. Anything shallower is mostly Kentucky Bass. The vast majority of the fish are on shad in open water at various depths with them being more shallow early before sunrise and then going deeper until about 9:PM when they disappear again. Fishing is best from about 5:45 AM to about 7:30 AM. There are a few fish coming up but are mostly small bass. Many of the crappie and bluegill just left my dock yesterday but a few catfish are still biting after dark on live bluegill and will get better as the moon wanes.
