Norfork Lake Arkansas near Mountain Home in the Ozarks Mountains Region fishing report and lake condition by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental.

Caught on the Bink's Spoon yesterday. Biggest one of the year. Image title

The lake level is 571.05 and has dropped 4-inches in the last 24-hours with both generators running continuously. That is a first time that has happened for a long time. It is hot and dry and has not rained since the first week of June and not much then. The level has dropped 2-feet since it's high on June 6th of 573. Surface water temperature is 86 on the main lake and as high as 90 in the creeks. Temperate bass have moved out in deeper water after sunrise and are being caught in about 55-ft on the spoon. Some walleye are with them but some are also on main lake points near the bottom at 20-25 ft.  There is a top-water bite for mostly bass some days but it is not everyday and it does not last long. The water is still clear and should stay that way until the algae bloom. The thermocline is not as deep as it usually is with the higher than normal surface water temperature but it will drop as the heat permeates into the water. I saw the banks and government offices are closed tomorrow. It said for Independence Day on the sign. I thought that was the 4th of July. Maybe I should get out more but I am not in favor of anymore summer holidays. Just another excuse to give government employees another day off. Get out early, take the middle of the day off and go out again about 6:PM for fishing. Come on down to Blackburns and we will not charge you too much and a free boat stall comes with your cabin. No need to bring a tent as all of our cabins have big covered porches and shade.
