Mike Eakle with some nice ones yesterday.
The lake level is 572.78 and has dropped 1-1/3 inches in the last 24-hours with about 10-hours of running both generators. The White River at Newport is 14.01 feet and they seem to be regulating it to 14-ft. The main lake is clear and the creeks are stained a bit but a good color for fishing. The surface water temperature is 78 degrees and rising. Fishing has picked up this week with crappie getting good back in the creeks on wood in 25-28 ft.of water. Top-water bite has slowed but there are some good ones at sunrise or just before on a few mornings but does not last long. Bass, small stripers, hybrids and white bass are all together on shad. I went out at about noon and fished for two hours and caught fish in all three places that I fished. It was a nice sunny day with light wind. The water is clean but there is some floating wood that came loose from the bank with the rising water and is blowing with the wind. You have to be alert but is nothing that cannot be handled with a little caution and not gong out after dark. The people that go out regularly after dark have either torn up or off lower units or the same with props and damaged boats. One child getting dragged on a tube in pigeon creek broke their leg so be careful and check the area out before dragging anything and stay on the main lake. This problem will diminish greatly as the lake finally drops and this stuff sticks to the shore. Gas is up past $5/gal for unleaded non-alcolol and much higher for premium non-alcohol which I used to use in all my boats but cannot afford it now. You can save on total vacation costs by staying at Blackburns with lower prices on Cabins and Boat Rentals rather than staying somwhere else and paying much more. This will help balance out higher gas prices and keep your toatal vacation costs about the same. Why pay more unless you just have too much money? We just had a one bedroom and a two bedroom mobil home cancel for the 2nd through the 9th of july due to high gas prices. Give Debbie a call at 492-5115. We had been full for weeks before this.
